Since 1887, four generations of the Gendreau family have succeeded one another to offer you exceptional products that embody the expertise of the last remaining sardine cannery in the Vendée. La Perle des Dieux continues the sardine tradition and continues to hand-pack fresh, artisanal products, elegantly enriched with innovative gourmet recipes and uniquely designed packaging.

Our team of 40—based in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and across 18 boutiques—works passionately to delight you every single day.

Our fish, an exceptional material

Quality is at the heart of everything we do. Our sardines are caught locally at the best time of the season off the coast of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and its surrounding region, which has been recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of France since 2018. The choice of a precise location and fishing at the height of summer guarantee an exceptional product that is both fresh and mature.

Less than two kilometers from the port, which has been awarded the Site Remarquable du Goût label, our briny flavors are packed fresh. All conditions are met to offer you a fish that melts in your mouth.

Our traditional know-how, unchanged since 1887

For generations, we have used ancestral methods in the last cannery of the Vendée in Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, which has been awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label (a label recognizing French companies with excellent artisanal skills). Thus, our sardinières sort, cut, preserve, and debone all fish by hand, with meticulous and delicate fingers.
